Easy Cheese and Herb Bread {Yeast-Free Bread}
This easy cheese and herb bread is ready in less than half and hour so a nice one to make with kids who can sometimes get a bit bored. It tastes like a rich, dense and comforting savoury scone and perfect for dunking in soup. You won’t need yeast for this - the raising agents in the flour make it rise.

Ingredients:
190g self-raising white flour
60g self-raising wholemeal flour
40g unsalted butter
100g mature cheddar cheese, finely grated
1 medium egg, whisked (1 tsp reserved for glazing)
125 milk
1 tsp Dijon mustard
Pinch salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp dried herbs e.g. rosemary, thyme
1 tsp rolled oats for sprinkling (optional)
Method:
Preheat oven to gas mark 6 / 200 C / 180 fan. Lightly grease a baking sheet and sprinkle with flour. Give the baking sheet a good shake to spread the flour around and tip the excess away.
Rub the flour and butter together until is resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the cheese, herbs, salt and pepper and mix well.
Make a well in the middle and add the egg (reserving 1 tsp for glazing) and mustard. Gradually add the milk and mix with a fork until you have a smooth dough. You may not need all the milk.
Shape the dough into a round flattish shape and cut it into eight pieces using a sharp knife. Brush with the remaining egg and sprinkle with oats of you like.
Bake in the centre of the oven for 15-20 minutes until well risen and golden.
