Low Fat Tiramisu

Here's a little recipe for a low fat tiramisu - a mere 277 calories per serving. It's more of a take on tiramisu as it lacks most of the ingredients of a traditional tiramisu, but it will satisfy tiramisu cravings if you’re watching your weight.

There’s no raw eggs in this tiramisu recipe, so if you use leave out the booze and you can serve it to pregnant ladies. My top tip is to make this the day before - it will taste infinitely better if chilled overnight. Also, don't over soak the sponges, and make the coffee fairly strong.

Low Fat Tiramisu

  • Serves: 4

  • Time:  10 mins hands on time + 4 hours chilling

  • Cost:  38p per serving

  • Calories:  277 per serving

Ingredients:

  • 150g low fat soft cheese

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 40g caster sugar, or to taste

  • 350g low fat Greek yogurt

  • 200ml strong black coffee

  • 25ml amaretto, or to taste (optional)

  • 100g sponge fingers

  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Method:

  1. Find the serving dishes you wish to use - either use four individual glasses or one large dish, such as a small lasagne dish.

  2. Blend the soft cheese, vanilla and sugar until smooth. Stir in the yogurt gently until combined. Set to one side.

  3. Mix the amaretto and coffee and pour into a shallow bowl. Dip the sponge fingers into the boozy coffee, one at a time for a few seconds turning once. They need to be soaked through but not soggy and dripping. If you cannot pick them up without them breaking they are too soggy.

  4. Make layers of soaked sponge fingers and the creamy mixture in your glasses or serving dish, finishing with a creamy layer at the top.

  5. Cover the dish or dishes with cling flim and pop in the fridge to chill for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight. Just before serving, dust with cocoa powder.
